Visiting Artist: Samantha Hill

Samantha Hill generously shared her artwork, process and resources with us during her visit. The Chicago artist's interdisciplinary work explores ideas about storytelling, archives, social and cultural issues. She shared her most recent large-scale endeavor, an archive titled "The Kinship Project Archive" which photographically chronicles 145 years of family history. Samantha shared incredible new acquisitions to her archival collection that had been donated by a Chicago family, in addition to a couple experimental photographs derived from her archive. The photos, newspaper clippings, trinkets and documents told pieces of a larger story.

During our workshop, students created collaborative drawings inspired by their AP Concentration portfolios. Whether exploring distorted glitchy portraits or abstractions derived from microscopic images of diseases, groups discovered new ways to approach their themes.
