Annie Heckman: sources

Annie Heckman came into our classroom as an experienced teacher as well as an artist.

During her visit to Schurz, she shared ways to start generating source material and inspiration from our own personal concerns and interests in real life. She gave us tips on how to make those personal concerns visually interesting to a larger audience.

She also shared her artwork, most specifically her animated painting videos and how she arrived at her strange and beautiful imagery.  Students went through a written version of this process and followed up the next few days by creating a quick image using watercolor, pen and other materials. See the photo gallery below for student work.  This video became a part of the exhibit in May 2014 at the Harold Washington College in Chicago, IL.
