Maya Mackrandilal: the interview

Maya's visit encouraged us to think about our family history, heritage and how that fits into our society as a whole. She brought us part of her costume and artifacts from past performances as well as her beautiful process building sketches and mapping. Please visit her website for more information on her artwork!

The class was challenged to have a conversation with a family member over winter break and ask some key questions beyond the superficial "interview" type questions. Once this coversation was had, students were to create a work of art that was inspired somehow by what was said or thought. The open endedness of this

The class then spent some time developing questions and hearing conversations, specifically from selections from the collection of Story Corps which features real people talking about real concerns and questions.
