​In 2012 Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art invited the Carl Schurz Art Department to become a partner in art education. This website is dedicated to providing a window into that experience.

This 3 year program can incorporate resident artists, other guests, the community surrounding the school, field trips & many opportunities of discovery, critical thinking and creating personal meaning within student learning. It is highly tailored to individual school needs and is sure to be different each year.

Students will use Contemporary Art as a springboard toward reflecting on their lives and the understanding of the world around them. Pairing the Schurz art teachers' expertise with the resources the MCA can provide will no doubt lead to some incredible and memorable learning experiences for all students involved.

Carl Schurz High School's Mission Statement

Carl Schurz High School will provide supportive academic programs through the small learning community model.  Each course curriculum will incorporate varied instructional approaches that address diverse learning styles and support the social-emotional growth of our multicultural population. The educational environment will focus on the improvement of reading, writing, math and the integration of technology across all content areas.  By involving all stakeholders in the learning process, Schurz High School will graduate students prepared to succeed in our global society.
