Northside Maker Faire Installation Project
Our students were challenged to create an outdoor installation using plastic sheeting (ie. party tablecloths!). They had 5 days to conceive of, construct and install their work. These installations were a part of the Northside Mini Maker Faire. The plastic table cloths were partially inspired by Amalia Pica's materials such as flags, confetti and party lights.

Again, the process of MAKING and the ideas that arise out of the moment were emphasized.

The photos here document our process from start to finish.

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Schurz is the fiscal sponsors of the second annual Mini Maker Faire Chicago Northside, the Foundation helps to promote the entrepreneurial spirit in Chicago. Our makers represent a mix of young and experienced, hobbyists and professionals, unique interests, and people of all backgrounds. Everyone has something to teach, and infinitely more to learn. Come experience it for yourself!

Attaching strings to the plastic, later to be made into mountains.

Tying the plastic together to make one long sheet.

Experimenting in the hallway to see how long it could go.

Working on plan B, just in case the weather was bad for the day of installation.

Turning paper clips into anchors, to secure the plastic to the ground.

Taping plastic together, to make strips to wrap the flag pole.

Just posing.

The group of handsome men cutting out letters to spell the word LOOK. ( an instruction for people to LOOK at the project once it was installed)

Cutting strips, they made close to a thousand. Some were crooked, some were too small, and some were just right.

A pile flowers made from the plastic.

The day of the installation, problem solving to get the perfect angle and tension to make hold the entrance way up.

Lilly pads in the artificial pond.

Placing each lily pad randomly.

We see the fish, but where are the frogs?

The floating mountains being attached to the tree.
