This year Schurz's first ever AP Studio Art class was chosen to participate in this partnership. We are lucky enough to have Jason Pallas as our resident artist who will be working with us throughout the year.

AP Studio Art is a rigorous course offered in high school for potential college credit. Students develop technical skills and familiarize themselves with the function of visual elements as they create an individual portfolio of work for evaluation at the end of the course.

More than that, AP Studio Art encourages students to become an informed and critical decision-maker while developing a portfolio that is personal to individual talents and interests.

Here's where the MCA Partnership really comes in! Through talking with students and understanding what they find most interesting, we have developed a curriculum that focuses on contemporary artists and their varieties of practices. Questioning becomes key: How do artists get started on a concept? What was their process then, what is it now? How can I (the student) respond to these artists and their work? The goal is that students begin to develop an individualized artistic practice of their own which they can apply to their portfolio building throughout the year and beyond.

The curriculum includes 7 artists visiting the classroom, sharing their work and practice and students creating at least one artwork that reponds to this experience. This amazing showcase could not be possible without Jason Pallas, the MCA and its resources.

Please look for each artists' visit & students' responses under 2013-2014 tab at the top of the page.
